+Festive Apple Pie+

Oh fall! It’s my favorite season of all from pumpkin pie, to apple orchards, crisp weather, and lots of apples..It was a quiet slow morning making this festive apple pie with my husband. Several cups of coffee were involved I must say 😉

This is a fairly easy pie to make with simple ingredients one would generally have on hand! Here is the recipe below for you to follow.

•1 box ready to use pie crust (or make your own)

•5-6 large Granny Smith apples peeled and sliced thinly

•1 stick butter

•3 tablespoons flour

•1/4 cup water

•1/2 cup coconut sugar (reg sugar can be substituted)

•1/2 cup brown sugar

•1 tablespoon pumpkin pie spice

•1 1/2 tsp vanilla

Place the peeled and sliced apples in a large bowl and set aside for later

Pre heat your oven to 450 degrees

Melt the butter until it starts to bubble than add your flour to form a paste, once the paste is formed add your water, pumpkin pie spice, vanilla, and sugars, bring back to a boil for one minute than bring it down to a simmer for another one minute. Turn the stove off and set aside 1/4 of the cup of sauce and pour rest on top of the sliced apples. Stir to combine sauce and apples!

Place the apples in the prepared pie crust and make a small mound of apples toward the middle of the pie.

Be creative with the top of the pie, this is the fun part! We chose a basket weaved look with hand done fall leaves! I used a small serated knife to cut out tiny and big leaves!

Once the top is on spread the rest of the remaining sauce on top of the pie.

Place a loose fit of tin foil on top of pie and be sure to butter up the side on the pie so it doesn’t stick.
Bake at 425 degrees for 12 minutes, than turn the oven down to 350 degrees and bake with tin foil in tact for 45 minutes! Remove tin foil the last ten minutes and bake until the crust is golden brown.

Let the apple pie cool, and pair it with a praline ice cream or vanilla cool whip. Enjoy!

Easing into transition+Milestone Baby

Awwwe….transition, adjustment, life changes..we all go through them as adults and children as well. Today I’m sharing straight from the heart on helping your toddler transition into the role of “big sister” or “big brother.”

Welcoming sweet Elouise has been the best gift our family has been given this year along with my husband finishing flight school, but that does not come with some hard days and extra cuddles for our first born daughter Beatrice. For those of you getting ready to welcome another bundle into the family I have jotted down a few helpful ways to make the transition for your toddler a little easier and manageable for the whole family!
Just know Momma that the first week will be the hardest and there’s not much you can do to get around that! There little emotions have a lot to process and sometimes the best recipe is time and extra snuggles and lots of praise. Here are few tips we have found successful so far:)

•ROUTINE: Your newborn baby will take some time to find a routine but your toddler most likely already has one in place. Stick with it! This helps give them a sense of security and stability for their changing emotions.

•GIFTS: Have a few special presents for your toddler to open the first week to let them know you are thinking of them and wanting them to feel special and supported.

•TASKS: Give you toddler tasks each day that don’t always involve the baby itself. Ask them kindly to get you a glass of water, or help you throw clothes in the washer and dryer. Help them feel capable of helping and feeling needed by including them in small tasks.

•ATTENTION: Having a newborn full time job around the clock, but try to squeeze in a few minutes here and there where your attention is on the toddler. Make eye contact and show that you care about what their building or playing with.

•PRAISE: Praise them as much as you can! Having a new sibling is such a big change, and when they are loving on the new baby make sure to give them praise for that! Remind them how important and special they are to you when you tuck them in at night.

•GRACE: Lastly give your self grace upon grace to not always have a perfect day or clean house. Love your babies hard, do your best, honor who your children are and that will always be enough for them. They see you and they see how hard your trying.

These cute milestone cards can be found at http://shop.milestone-world.com/ or follow their Instagram page @milestonebaby. I find it really fun having a cute photo card to document milestones in your children’s life. Beatrice loves to go through these cards and read them and tell me which ones she can and cannot do! Today she couldn’t just pick just one so we picked four things she can now do on her own. She’s becoming such a big girl and I’m so proud of her and love having these cards to document her growth!

Just the three of us+Lorena Canals Rugs

Well it was my first morning on my own with my two baby girls…and I have to say we survived;) my momma left early for the airport after being here for ten days and being the biggest help ever. Isn’t help the best when your going through a major life transition? I’m so thankful.

Waking up to my grunting babe and feeding her in bed is just the best. Every morning my daughter Beatrice comes into my room and says “where is my Elouise” and kisses her forehead while she watches a couple shows and baby Elioise doses off to sleep once again. We’re all in newborn bliss over here with a mix of sleep deprivation 😉

This morning I took these photos of my girls after we got dressed and thought to myself “Seeing these two loving on each other makes my heart explode with gratitude and teaches me more about compassion each passing day.” Motherhood is truly stretching, yet magnificent at the same time. Each day I get to love on these girls and call them mine!

Today I am sharing about our current favorite rug from Lorena Canals rugs. These rugs are machine washable making it such a great option for messy toddlers and dirty feet! I also can easily run a vacuum over it to fluff it up or throw it in the wash for a quick clean! I love the styles and colors Lorena Canals Rugs come in and will be sure to have many more in our new house come fall! These are must have rugs if your in the season of raising babies and kids! Incredibly soft on the feet, functional, and beautiful to look at. Visit their website athttp://lorenacanals.us/ or their Instagram page at @lorenacanalsrugs

Birthing Elouise Lucille

Dear baby girl,

On the day you were born heaven rejoiced with great joy, love was bestowed and you, my child, were set apart; unique  from the rest and welcomed with some fierce and wild love.

My sweet girl,  you were certainly comfortable in my womb and had no plans of arriving anytime soon and boy does that fit your personality now that you are earth side – Content, peaceful, sweet, and loving your sleep.

Daddy and I came to the hospital at about 6am ready for a gentle induction to help welcome you into this brave new world. Our doula, Jennifer, was by my side the entire birth. Our room was filled with hints of lavender and peppermint and all my favorite songs playing softly. My closest friend and my strong momma sat next to me. My labor was done using yogic breath, deep inhales through the nose, deep exhales out the mouth and lots of quiet moaning. I rocked back and forth on the birthing ball, I walked and walked, and often repeated these words in my head “My body is not broken, I am capable and strong, my baby is coming.”

I had planned on doing a natural birth for you and had done quite a bit a preparation mentally using meditation and speaking out my birth affirmations on a daily basis. Momma had taped those positive words on our refrigerator at home months ago.

There came a point in labor when my body needed water and so that is where I spent my time..in the warm tub. Then transition came and it was time to push.  I had heard so much about “transition” and how that’s the hardest part of the birth, the part where I would give up and say it’s too much. Boy, were they right. Everything was very peaceful up until this point. My body was tired, my emotions were getting the best of me, and I yelled out many times ” I can’t do this, I just can’t do this.” I’ll never forget sweet girl the way your daddy got me through. I remember seeing his face through the glass as I labored in the tub. He hung my birth affirmations in front of me with tears streaming down his face, and pointing aggressively to these water- colored pictures I had created. I looked deep into his eyes wanting nothing more than to be done, to quit, but I knew he believed in me. I knew I could do it. I knew this is what I wanted. My doula got me through the hardest contractions, she always kept eye contact with me and always made me feel powerful and capable of this task. Once I got out of the tub, you, my love, came so incredibly fast, three swift pushes that felt like I was birthing fire, and there you were on my chest, all of you and everything we could have dreamed of. Crying and searching for me. Incredibly soft, incredibly worth the fight, worth the pain, worth it all.

To all the Mommas who have given birth or will… believe in the power house YOU are. No matter how your birth goes, cesarean, epidural, pitocin, whatever expectations are lost, or how hard it gets, you are a warrior, a strong mother. My first birth was incredibly different from this one. I did not get to do a natural birth, I did not have an easy labor, and I had a lot of healing to do. But you, sweet girl, came how you wanted, with a lot of peace, pure surrender and a whole lotta faith in myself and my body.

My hospital gown can be found at http://www.della-b.com/  insta page @dellabgowns. Not only did this gown make me feel beautiful, it’s functionality is so cool! It zips down the center for easy access to breastfeed, snaps all the way down the back and sides and comes in so many beautiful colors/designs. It was truly such a sweet gift and I loved being able to wear this instead of the scratchy, uncomfortable gowns the hospital offers.

These photos were taken by a very close friend, Rachel.  I can’t thank her enough for capturing this life changing day. After birth photos taken by April White: ttp://aprilwhitephotography.blogspot.com/?m=0

Sister cuddles+Dockatot

Welcoming home our sweet Elouise Lucille has been a big adjustment for our sweet Beatrice. Everyday she is balancing out a bit and loving on her sister a little more. I love the connection I already see between them and the love and compassion that radiates from Beatrice towards Eluoise. Elouise has been a great sleeper so far, which is different for us as Bea was not 😉

A lot of you have asked how we are liking our dockatot for co-sleeping with Eluoise and I can say we like it/love it so much. Not only does she feel held tight and secure, but it’s made breastfeeding so handy as she’s right next to me in arms reach.

The dockatot comes in two sizes the deluxe for babies up to 8 months and the grand for toddlers! We really love the material, quality, and functionality of this bed for little babes and feel so thankful this was sent our way! I love that when she’s not sleeping on my chest (which is my favorite thing ever) my babe feels snug and tight as she lies in her dockatot swaddled.

Brave Heart.

Bravery. We all want to be and exemplify that word. For some it may be jumping through a huge hurdle in their life, taking on a new unfamiliar job or move, skydiving, swimming with sharks, climbing a high mountain, or maybe even facing their worst fear head on.

But for some maybe bravery comes in the quietness of unseen hot tears underneath the bedsheets clinging to hope and processing the hard things in life, or maybe it’s a warm hug we offered a stranger because we saw pain in their eyes, and tears running down their cheeks. For some bravery comes in the quiet moments where we’ve stirred up enough strength in our heart to face our fears and pent up shame.
What if bravery wasn’t always an epic, huge milestone we overcame? What if it’s the quiet voice telling us to dare to dream a little bigger, to see ourselves in a new light, or to come alive to the fact that people need us and want us in their life. These little moments spark bravery.

Maybe some of you are facing daring situations in your life, overwhelming loss, or unplanned and unforeseen bumps in the road? Did you know you are brave? You are brave because you are choosing to go through these hoops, dive into the pain, and look fear in the eyes. You are brave for being able to tell yourself “you are enough” in a world that says you don’t quite measure up. You are brave for telling someone something honest and vulnerable in hopes that it will inspire strength within them. You are brave for baring your heart to another in hopes of finding love and connection. You are brave for loving and accepting someone through loss of trust and betrayal. You are brave for all the times you thought you couldn’t pick yourself back up. You are brave for standing by that hospital bed believing for the best. You are brave for telling someone you trust that you were hurt and neglected. You are brave for finding the courage to take that 17th pregnancy test. You are brave for getting over an addiction that consumed your life. You are brave for waiting patiently for your soldier to come home, even on your hardest day. You did it! You are a brave heart for simply being the person God created you to be.

You see a brave heart faces what some may deam dangerous or risky. For what some may see as a dead end, or overwhelming heartache. But you, the brave heart, you see the silver lining in the grey sky, your hope though it may be a thread is anchoring you down, your passion and love for others is driving you to dig deeper to see things clearer, and become the brave heart you already are.
Whatever your mountain may be right now, take heart, grab hold of everything that makes you brave, and believe the truth of what you are already accomplishing in your life. Let your brave heart feel pain, emotion, and grief. Let your brave heart heal the places that feel broken inside. Believe you are enough. Believe you have what it takes to empower and celebrate others, to come alongside them and give them your support and heart.

After all, we are all on a journey of becoming more brave and courageous. But maybe sometimes being brave might look quiet, it might be seen in the mundane tasks of life, it might be seen in a simple act of kindness you mustered up the strength to give someone in need. Maybe these small moments of seeing your brave heart played out is shocking and not given enough credit in your eyes or another. But to every brave heart, this is who you are. This is you being brave in the face of adversity. Believe it 🙂

Tickled in Pink

Hey Mommas,

This time around with our second little one we are doing things pretty simple when it comes to her needs and our wants. I have certainly found a few special places that make handcrafted, organic, beautiful teething toys, booties, and “nu nu” holders for your little one. Here are a few of my favorites.

Finn+Emma (100% organically grown)

They have the cutest, simple, gender neutral toys, teethers, and clothes you ever did see. We love this little pink teether and toys that can attach to the car seat or stroller for babies enjoyment.

If your looking for soft hues of pastels and high quality teethers this is a very special small business to buy from. Incredibly soft teething beads and the cutest designs. We are just loving the shade of blush and light soft wood this time around.

Handmade leather booties with sizes for baby up to toddlers. These super soft booties are ridiculously cute and give your child a gentle transition into walking with a very sturdy sole. You can add fringes in different colors which I find SO adorable. Birds of nature will be coming out am with some brand new designs soon so stay tuned. These booties will be so fun to see my baby  grow into. I really love this small business.

Forgive And Soften

Forgiveness is an expression of love. •Gary Chapman

Today my friend Kate was kind enough to let us come out and see her horse “Cowboy” with our sweet friend Brae and Rachel. It was lightly raining and humid, the grass was crazy green, and it felt so good to be out in the open. Lately I’ve been humbled and graced by my daughters ability to forgive and show such compassion towards me and my husband. We have and always want to instill in her little heart that mistakes happen, people let us down, emotions can run high, and frustration will happen, even anger. And when those emotions conquer a brief moment in our day, we are constantly reminding each other of the good and honorable that each of us possess.

We truly are our children’s first example of love and forgiveness. These two words are not separate from one another in my opinion, rather I believe they complete each other like a puzzle. Instead of seeing children’s mistakes as well as our own in a condemning/shaming way, let’s connect with the heart, the feelings and emotions behind the miscommunication, failure, or lack of love. Let’s be a safe place, where we can affirm each other’s strengths and find healing and wholeness together.

The other day I was frustrated and said something to my daughter in a harsh way. I wasn’t very proud of that in the moment until I heard my daughter speak directly to my heart. She said “It’s okay Momma, are you frustrated?” To which I replied “yes.” She than went on to say “Momma, I forgive you, it doesn’t matter cause I love you.” At that point my cheeks were stinging red and my heart was full and overwhelmed with her sweet grace hovering over me like a cloud. You see when we fall away from who we are in a hot moment we need to be reminded of who we are, our purpose on this earth, and the compassion that lies deep inside each one of us.

Forgiveness comes by the sweet grace of God that calls forth our true identity and leaves us not feeling ashamed but rather honored, stood by, loved on and lifted up away from our current failure. My sweet daughter and I have been blessed with a very amazing connection when it comes to understanding each others heart. We hold them dearly and securely. We trust, and we listen when we’re frustrated. We learned this and continue to learn this each day we grow closer to our Heavenly Father.

On any given day one of us will forget, yet the other always has the compassion to seek out the best and offer compassion and love to re-connect our hearts with what’s important. As we inhale  the present moment, the reality that love and kindness is never far from us is comforting at best. It’s right within reach. It lies inside each and every one of us.

We can’t teach our children forgiveness. They learn by being given the chance to fail and make a mistake. They learn forgiveness when you open your heart, when you open your home to love and not a place of perfection. But rather a space that is freeing, compassionate, and open and honest about feelings and emotions. Forgiveness is choosing love and grace in the face of failure. It’s speaking to a place in the heart that needs a reminder of “Hey, that’s not who you are…you are love, you are kindness, and you are honorable.”

The amazing part of modeling forgiveness like this to your children is they aren’t simply just saying “I’m sorry” or ” I forgive you” out of duty but rather they are connected with the feeling and the emotion taking place. They are involved in the healing and nurturing of the heart to bring it back to where it belongs.
